God’s spy Duras between the fait divers and the myth

It comes as no surprise that an author should fictionalize a fait divers and use it as material for a story. More surprising, however, is Duras’ approach, consisting of retelling a fait divers found in the news, of blurring reality and fiction, and of adding an original twist of savagery by turning the fait divers into a myth. In so doing, the author folds the surrounding rumour and intrigue into her writing in order to deliver her fable to the world.
