Pratiques langagières et « marginalité avancée » à Bruxelles et à Liège
Retour sur la dimension de classe dans l’étude des « parlers jeunes »

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Les Métropoles francophones européennes en temps de globalisation
  • Author: Hambye (Philippe)
  • Abstract: This article analyses the French vernacular of young people in working-class neighborhoods in Belgium, through a focus on their social position and on the socio-economic conditions of contemporary cities. While "youth languages" are often understood through the lens of speakers' multilingual repertoire or ethnicity, we put their social living conditions at the heart of our analysis, in a way to get a better grasp on the specificity of their vernacular and on their motivations in adopting it or not.
