Autour de La Possibilité d’une île
Lorsque la réception pénètre les œuvres

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Lectures croisées de l’œuvre de Michel Houellebecq
  • Author: Bottarelli (Alice)
  • Abstract: The reception of Houellebecq’s novels is characterized by the recurrent question of the relationship between writer and characters. These confusions are partly founded and supported by Houellebecq. This echoing serves both to heighten the texts’ ambiguity, and to feed back the artistic creation. The reception plays an essential role in the production of meaning in the novels, according to the place one decides to grant Houellebecq in the field of literary history. The literary fact thus includes the epitext, the public body of the author, and the intertextual references of the reader.
