The “Puy des Palinods” of Rouen, a poetry competition honoring the Immaculate Conception, was so successful at the beginning of the sixteenth century that the greatest poets participated in it. This study analyzes the theological, sociological, and historical dimensions of a production characteristic of nascent humanism.
