Vercruysse studies the allusions and references to d’Holbach in a manuscript now to be found at the Bibliothèque Royale de Bruxelles, entitled Lettres de Cang-ti, grand mandarin de la Chine, recueillies par Mylord Shaftesbury, composed by a young man from Brussels, Sébastien Joseph Antoine Cupis de Camargo, an avid reader of clandestine manuscripts, who pushed his atheistic logic to conclusion by suicide at the age of 23.
