In three of his neo-Latin letters of 1532, Rabelais takes his leave carefully, using Greek valedictory formulas, one of which was adopted as-is by a contemporary imitator. This article shows that the models for the three Rabelaisian clausulae are themselves to be found in the correspondence of Guillaume Budé, who was at the time an unmatched stylistic model for the author of Pantagruel.
