The “acid effect” which provides readers with a sharp, biting pleasure is inextricably linked to the work of writers searching for fundamental truths, such as Quignard, Duras, and Ernaux, who employ a process of “mezzotint” inspired by etchers. This study examines the way in which this “alethic acid” works in their poetics.
