Can we say that Kwahulé’s dramatic art is a “black dramatic art”? This is a paradoxical question, as most of his texts make no reference to his Ivory Coast origins: common signs of « africanité » are absent. This essay analyzes a particular condition found in Kwahulé’s theater: the experience of the threshold, of the in-between, an experience that contributes to something we might call the diasporic situation.
