In the image of the post-colonial Algerian novel of the 1970s, the work of Rachid Mimouni is characterized by the presence of atypical characters. Far from being revolutionary heroes, they are marginals, disenchanted, mad. Condemned to being excluded and rejected, they tell of the back streets of Algeria in a different discourse from that which glorifies independent Algeria. Each one of them represents a segment of the population, ostracized from society, an archetypal marginal character.
