Hélène Cixous draws from Rimbaud’s writing a poetic and political momentum that deeply informs the thought and practice of écriture féminine which she inaugurated in 1975. An analysis of « The Laugh of the Medusa » will make clear the singularity of Cixous’ reading of Rimbaud while also underscoring its relevance to the (philosophical, philological, feminist, and other) debates surrounding the reception of Rimbaud’s work in the seventies.
