“Fleurs de rêve”, “fleurs magiques” The Rimbaldian anamorphoses of the romantic flower

This article reflects on the resumption of a romantic motif, by formulating the hypothesis that far from being rejected by Rimbaud, the flower leaves its imprint in the texts, according to various modes, from reflection to metamorphosis and from metamorphosis to anamorphosis. At the end of a process of reappropriation, the poet opposes to the faded flowers, objects of hackneyed exercises, “dream flowers” or “magic flowers”, which bloom in the sole reality of the poem. The dream, an architectural model, nevertheless remains a romantic motif, and magic as the hallucinatory force of poetry remains an essential dynamic. The floral (re)creations thus manifest the singularity of Rimbaud’s witchcraft, worked with a powerful romanticism.
