Verticales A sociohistory of the construction of an emblematic position in the literary field

This article reconstructs the evolution of Verticales: the avant-garde of the avant-garde between 1997 and 1999, bought by Le Seuil in 2000, and then by Gallimard in 2005. It also looks at how Verticales became part of the emblematic side of the consecrated avant-garde—its place in the field was acquired and legitimized at the same time as its catalogue’s eclecticism and diversity were diminishing.
