This article examines the influence of Maurice Scève’s Arion (1536) on Ronsard’s Chant pastoral à Madame Marguerite (1559). Firstly, we examine how Arion influenced Ronsard’s predecessors, such as Hugues Salel, Barthélemy Aneau, and Marguerite de Navarre, before comparing the Scévienne eclogue with the Ronsardian eclogue to show that Délie was not the only work by Scève that Ronsard knew, appreciated, and imitated.
