The version of the Old Testament by the Seventy and the New Testament written in Koine Greek were accepted by the official Greek Church as inspired and canonical writings. Every new translation was seen as a deviation. This contribution presents the translations, adaptations, and paraphrases of the Bible in Modern Greek (since the sixteenth century) from a historical, socio-cultural and linguistic point of view.
