We will be looking back at some of Cioran’s most exact and cruel notes on his own country in order to define, at the very heart of his geopolitical lamentations, a sort of arrogance in failure which is perhaps a fundamental element of the Romanian intuition of life. Confronted with Europe’s inanity, the complaint on Romania appears as one of the last possible expressions of pride, and a way to take revenge on destiny.
