As a young man, Cioran hated the idea of destiny, one of the beloved ideas of the Romanian people. He thought that it prevented the Romanian people from imposing itself. For the Romanians, this generated an entire story of national lamentation aimed at history and even geography. Cioran himself found his own reasons for lamentation during his youth, and although one may say that they differ from those of other people, through his drive to lament he was really following the Romanian line.
