Gil Charbonnier and María Isabel Corbí Sáez, “Introduction.Challenges of the Spanish and Hispanic American worlds in Valery Larbaud’s work and thought”
His Alicantin stay from 1916 to 1920, meant the recovery of his youthful passion for the Hispanic language and cultures on both sides of the Atlantic and set him on very fruitful paths. If many aspects still remain to cover on as far as regards his personal trajectory and the ones of creator, critic and translator, his pioneering contribution to the idea of Europe as a cultural and political project invites as well to the analysis. This introduction sets all its challenges.
Keywords: Valery Larbaud, work and thought, Spanish and Hispanic American worlds, mediator, comparatism, literary cosmopolitism, European project.

Juan Manuel Bonet, “Ramblings on Valery Larbaud and the Hispanic world”
Valery Larbaud, the prototype of the cosmopolitan writer, lived in Spain during part of the First World War. If his stay in Alicante allowed him to strengthen ties of friendship with intellectuals, artists and writers, who would have an imprint on his life and work, it would also allow him to regain his interest in Latin America and its literatures. This chapter offers a beautiful tour of the fabulous Larbaldian library, a clear reflection of his passion for the Hispanic world…
Keywords: Valery Larbaud, cosmopolitan writer, library, Spanish fund, Spanish American fund.

The article explains how the French writer, Valery Larbaud, and the Spanish philosopher, José Ortega y Gasset, shared the same conceptions of literary modernism in the interwar period, based on Ortega ’ s work: The Dehumanization of art . These conceptions are part of a literary cosmopolitanism which lays the foundations of different cosmopolitical projects, in the Kantian sense of the term.

Catherine Douzou, “Larbaud, Morand and Spain”
Valery Larbaud and Paul Morand both have a strong connection with Spain, of which they speak the language and where they have stayed. A country having exerted certain influences on them and established friendships which also opened up to them the Hispanic field in the broad sense, that is, Latin American literatures. Direct contacts with Spain and the Spanish which constitute the basis of their reflections on the right literary relationship that moderns should develop with the other and the foreigner…
Keywords: Valery Larbaud, Paul Morand, modernity, exotism, Spain.
Michel Brissaud, “Tan Callando, echoes and reminiscences around John Donne, Francis Thompson, and James Joyce”
Tan Callando is an assertion of silence where all activities stand still to evoke Le cœur de l’Angleterre, in which some excerpts duplicate passages of Ulysses, recently published in French. It recalls also Wilfrid and Alice Meynell’s literary circle, where 312Francis Thompson found shelter. It is as well the evocation of unsuccessful love and reminds the underlying weave of some John Donne’s poems, ending with a final sublimation where virtue of the ancient world blends with evangelical virtues…
Keywords: Tan Callando, poetical phrase (Spanish language), sordid and splendid aspect of England, unsuccessful love, reminiscence, egotism, liturgical latin, virtue of the ancient world.
Mots-clés : Valery Larbaud, Poésies d’A.O. Barnabooth(1913), cosmopolitisme, stratégies métriques, stylistique, versification.
Letizia Imola, “Bringing in one’s verses ‘the remains of a new world’. Stylistic analysis of the formal cosmopolitanism in A.O. Barnabooth’s Poésies”
By taking up the intuition of David E. Evans according to whom the integrity of the alexandrine verse is, in certain cases, disrupted by an extra-national element, we analyse a series of examples taken from the 1913 edition of A.O. Barnabooth ’ s Poésies , in which a correspondence between the metric plan and the semantic plan is manifested. These are in fact verses which contain references to a “nouveau monde”, to exotic components testifying of a modern cosmopolitanism even at the formal level.
Keywords: Valery Larbaud, A.O. Barnabooth ’ s Poésies (1913), cosmopolitanism, metric strategies, stylistics, versification.

Our analysis focuses on the friendship and literary commitments with Mathilde Pomès, the first agrégée of Spanish in France. We plan to demonstrate from the analysis of their correspondence how our author, critic and translator showed counter to current an advanced mind because, enjoying an undeniable notoriety and prestige in the aftermath of the First World War, he grants his collaborator equal treatment, ensuring her visibility and notoriety in the literary field.
Keywords: Valery Larbaud, women of letters, Spanish and Hispanic American literatures, Mathilde Pomès, gender.

Gálvez, keen to be recognized as a great writer, both in his own country and internationally, went through Larbaud to be published and promoted in France. The unpublished correspondence between the two men gives a perfect account of the situation and illustrates for the first time the relationship between the two men.

Brigitte Natanson, “Crossed perspectives. The practice and theory of translation in Valery Larbaud and Alfonso Reyes”
The role of mediator played by Valery Larbaud and Alfonso Reyes is analyzed here based on their correspondence, prefaces and theoretical writings. The intuitions of the two author-translators result from their practice, inhabited by a common love of beauty and the importance of appropriating the “foreign” text. Their discussions on Larbaud ’ s translation of Yerbas del Tarahumara of Reyes illustrate the distance between theory and practice and perhaps the difficulty of translating a living author.
Keywords: Valery Larbaud, Alfonso Reyes, translation, practice and theory, crossed perspectives.

318Miguel Tolosa Igualada, “Translation as an intercultural sesame. Reflections on the work of Valery Larbaud and Noémie Larthe, translators of Gabriel Miró into French”
After having considered the vicissitudes experienced by Gabriel Miró ’ s work in France, we analyze the French translation by Valery Larbaud and Noémie Larthe of “Semaine Sainte” (El humo dormido, 1919), more particularly the process of translation in the broad sense, based on the analysis of the epistolary exchange between Miró and Larbaud and, to a lesser extent, in the restricted sense.
