It was impossible for Giraudoux, so caught up in his era’s zeitgeist, to escape the new art of cinema. His initial denigration gives way to a growing presence of cinema in his novels and plays: the narrative techniques echo different sequences of footage; theater and its mise-en-scène are obviously intertwined with the seventh art. The cultivated writer gives cinema a way to escape mediocrity by setting moving images to beautiful language.
