The contributions of enaction to restoration ecology The case of the brown bear in the Pyrenees

Enaction theory states that living beings, through their own activity, specify their world, which in turn conditions them. We illustrate this principle by analysing the formation of the home range by brown bears reintroduced into an unknown habitat. Using a cellular automaton model, we show how the home range can emerge from exploratory movements coupled with a memory process. This approach opens up new perspectives of research in restoration ecology.
