The paper draws an unusual comparison between two major European romantic authors, unequally known and studied though they sometimes wrote on similar topics (such as the indifference of nature), but in a completely different style: Vigny’s is firm and neoclassical while Leopardi’s writing of vago implies a typically Italian use of odd and flexible verses, close to prose and even automatic writing.
