The Relationship between Stone and Other Building Materials in Portuguese Cities in the Middle Ages

How has stone been combined with other materials, and is it feasible to consider the existence of a tendency to increase the use of stone in Portuguese cities between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries? The answer to this question is neither simple nor unequivocal, and spans several chronologies. In this article, different types of buildings are analyzed, demonstrating that each is a different combination of building materials.
