De la « querelle des femmes poètes » au Mérite des femmes (ou plutôt l’inverse)

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Femmes des Lumières. Recherches en arborescences
  • Author: Pascal (Jean-Noël)
  • Abstract: The Revolution nourishes, among female writers the consciousness to form a community and the need to claim the right to practice publicly their activity. But in the male poetic Establishment the reluctances are great. The debate, which results in Epistle to the women by Constance de Salm, is more as a trivial story. This article re-questioning it, letting aside punctual provocations of Le Brun in La Décade (1796), by rereading it from the Mérite des Femmes, de Legouvé (1800), a famous feminist poem.
