AB  - This chapter investigates the role of elite women in sixteenth-century Siena as the dedicatees of a major translation project undertaken by a group of men associated with the Accademia degli Intronati, including Alessandro Piccolomini. They rendered Virgil’s Aeneid into the vernacular in a multi-authored translation, I sei primi libri (1540). The genesis of the volume and the nexus of interconnections between the female dedicatees and the male translators is rooted in the Piccolomini family.
