AB  - This article reinterprets Boulainvilliers' Life of Mohamed as providing a suggestive articulation between the religious and the political, quite different from the mainstream view of an anti-religious French Enlightenment. This Spinozist theologico-political conception leads us to shed a different light on Rousseau’s ideas on religion, as well as on an apparently very distant thinker like Muhammad Iqbal.
