The study of electoral procedures, in known worlds as well as in the “unknown worlds” of the deserted islands beckoning all manner of experiments, suggests his predilection for authoritarian regimes and a form of the cult of the leader that Michel’s rewriting of En Magellanie denounces. Verne’s success in the French republican school system was only possible at the cost of neutralizing the political discourse of Voyages extraordinaires.
