AB  - This article examines the variations on Captain Nemo in three works written by Jules Verne between 1868 and 1882 and notes a gradual reduction in the original ambiguity of the character in favor of emphasizing his religiosity. An analogous transformation is reproduced in short form in the character of the Kaw-djer in the posthumous novel En Magellanie, which can be understood as a novel with a social and political thesis.
