AB  - Two translations and adaptations of Le Comte de Monte-Cristo by Alexandre Dumas in Korean (a printed serial, a radio play) show how the reception of a foreign work can vary according to the historical context: the translation with imperialist leanings (Le Neptune, 1916) reduced Korean society to the status of a colonial regime, while a rather nationalist translation (La Tour de la Perle, 1946) helped to consolidate Korean culture.
