AB  - Edward Said, who promoted politically engaged criticism, which arose from Marxism and was typical of culturalism, sought out traces of colonial domination in British and French literature from the nineteenth century onwards. This transcolonial comparatism takes the novel to be a genre that is in the service of imperialism in particular. The English-language novel is analyzed more closely by Edward Said, who may have disappointed French readers, for example in his readings of Albert Camus.
