AB  - Describing the silent pursuit of a stag by a man, this novel from 1979 explores the meaning of the trace, its inscription in a whole for which it alone is a fragment, and the way in which it leads the hunter himself into a trap, before he abandons the idea of killing and effacing the trace. Based on the rapport between narrative and hunting knowledge (Ginzburg), this novel insists on the difficulty of detection; the superiority of prayer, even divination, over knowledge; and the way in which, ultimately, the hunter ends up pursuing his own truth.
