This parallel should not hide Musset’s profound influence on Rostand, a predilection that is manifest in his poetry (Les Musardises) and in his theater (Les Romanesques, L’Aiglon). Sixty years apart, the works echo each other. Beyond the particular case of Rostand, this dialogue allows us to reevaluate the periodization of literary Romanticism.
