AB  - Why has literary history categorized Cyrano de Bergerac as the anachronistic resurgence of romantic drama a half-century after it supposedly became obsolete? A critical dossier of its creation helps deconstruct this common preconception. Ignoring the continuation of Romanticism after Les Burgraves (which did not fail) and limiting Rostand to his inspiration from Hugo establishes a false periodization that aims to do away with Romanticism.
