AB  - Unlike many notions (portrait, landscape, seascape. . .) that are borrowed from painting, the notion of “still life” has hardly been used in literary criticism or poetics. The aim of this article is to evaluate the possible relevance of this notion in the context of novels, particularly those of nineteenth-century realism (Flaubert). Is there, as in painting, a nineteenth-century “corner of the table” genre?
