An ironic gourmand painting evoked in absentia, it encourages the confusion of the profane and the sacred and turns the world on its head. Still life corrupts the sacred rite, which becomes demonic. An unstable cultural space, still life opens a breach between the living and the dead and presents Dom Balaguère as a revenant.
