Man writes anyway.” - André Chamson facing up to the cursed times (1939–1945) T2 - Revue d'Histoire littéraire de la France 1 – 2024, 124e année, n° 1. varia JO - Revue d'Histoire littéraire de la France (ISSN 2105-2689), 124-1, 1 – 2024 DO - 10.48611/isbn.978-2-406-16571-2.p.0109 SN - 2105-2689 SP - 109 EP - 121 AB - Less known than some of his illustrious contemporaries (Malraux, Giono, Saint-Exupéry), André Chamson is nonetheless a key early twentieth-century figure who devoted his first works to the conflictual links that unite history and literature. We show how Chamson adapted his discourse to events, even if it meant no longer being a writer, always looking for “means of expression” to make his pacifism heard in the midst of cursed times.
