Far from simply synthetizing classical (Euripides, Seneca) and modern sources (Corneille, Longepierre, Clément), the play—perhaps inspired by a true story—completely reinvents the legend’s traditional elements by placing the figure of Creusa center stage, and by revealing an astonishing intertextual relationship with Racine’s œuvre.
