AB  - Remy de Gourmont, a nineteenth-century journal editor and newspaper columnist, contributed extensively to the publishing and media world of his time. Beyond his taste for writing about daily events, his journalistic career stemmed from his confrontation with the immediate, pragmatic need to write in order to live—despite having previously lived exclusively to write. Gourmont solicited newspapers; likewise, as a result of his significant influence, newspapers solicited him. This article analyzes the benefits of these exchanges.
