Very often, the Council is interpreted in a one-sided way by focusing on papal diplomacy. On the one hand, it was a place of the Pope’s “staging” who succeeded in effectively presenting his claim to supremacy. On the other hand, it was a meeting of representatives of the West and the East Church, who have struggled intensively for the truth of the Christian faith.
