AB  - In his Disputation Pro veritate inquirenda et timoratis conscientiis consolandis (1518), Luther presents his understanding of the effective promise of Christ said by the priest in his Absolvo te and the corresponding faith. The article describes the background of this understanding in Luther’s Resolutiones, analyses the precise character of promise and faith and the role of the priest in absolution, and elaborates on the distinction between faith as intentio recta and intentio obliqua.
