AB  - In principle, not an awful lot happened in Proust’s life, nor in that of the hero of La Recherche. But the novelist reflected the whole of Belle Époque society, the whole of public life under the Third Republic. His work therefore relied on his memory of places and contemporary figures. Inhabiting the skin of the hero and narrator of his oeuvre: that was his real life.
