AB  - At the beginning of Albertine disparue, the narrator wants to believe that hearing “one of the neighbours playing some tunes from Manon” will allow him, by taking inspiration from the attitude of this opéra-comique heroine, to gain reassurance. What does this choice by Proust tell us? The accidental disappearance of the heroine indeed seems to mark the end of the hegemony of the theme of the death of love as the culmination of a female destiny: the “natural” death marks the beginning of an overcoming conducive to literary and musical creation.
