For the narrator, the work requires a withdrawal into oneself in the name of redemption, whose links with Jewish mysticism can be brought to light. Bloch, a talented author, a figure of Jewishness that cannot be assimilated by anti-Semites, appears as the representative of exaltation placed at the service of “false vocations”.
