AB  - In the eloquent oration of the pulpit, the topos of Rome’s greatness and decadence is not so much the object of a descriptive representation as it is the basis for reflection on the vanity of human glory and on the eternal greatness of Christ. Greatness and decadence reflect one another, and Bossuet deploys enunciative devices that attest to this. We also reflect on a possible interpretation of the topoi found in eloquent oration from the pulpit.
