It takes into account key thinkers of the Enlightenment, as well as various didactical textbooks and finally the writings of Maury. This article highlights the ambivalences in the judgements made about Bossuet as a writer : if all agree that his eloquence is characterised by greatness, force, energy and sublime, he is also reproached for his colloquialisms, a regrettable mix of styles, and even a lack of art.
