AB  - The numerous Balzacian echoes to be found in Le Marquis de Fayolle are derived from the historical novel, Les Chouans (1829), but also refer to other works by Balzac. Nerval either proposes a personal variant on scenes originating in specific texts, or he tackles themes found in Balzacian novels weaving them into the narrative. The elaborating crossings with different stories from La Comédie humaine make his unfinished novel a true imaginary dialog with an author he never ceased to admire.
