AB  - The motif of the “jouissance that kills” haunts Musset’s poems. In Gamiani, the obscene marriage of Sappho, Lesbos, Eros, and Thanatos is presented with great force. If this simulacrum refers to the artist gnawed by the mal du siècle, the demonic soul of the countess and the ingenuousness of Fanny resonate like figures of the poet’s internalized femininity. A morbid imaginary then appears, revealing the immobility of a carnal and amorous relationship petrified by the nothingness of the sepulcher.
