AB  - This essay presents a creative practice history of the relationship between the fine art curator and opera/ballet impresario Sergei Diaghilev and his most famous dancer, Vaslav Nijinsky, in the context of mentoring partnership. Through close-readings of primary accounts, Herbert Ross’ fictional film, Nijinsky, and Emile Ardolino’s screen version of the ballet Petrushka, I look at what this mythic story tells about key relationships as commonly occur within the creative and performing arts.
