A 58-year-old woman became convinced that an amnesiac homeless man was in fact her husband, deported to Buchenwald fifteen years prior and not heard from since. While less sensational than the murders that Duras usually mines with enthusiasm, this fait divers stands out for its historical dimension and personal resonance. The current article will examine this fait divers from two angles: its nature and its literary staging.
