AB  - Drawing on The Mariner by Taleb Alrefai and The Corsair by Abdulaziz al-Mahmoud, seemingly worlds apart but both based on the lives of real people, this article explores a thalassography of the Persian Gulf. Caught somewhere between a referential place and an imaginary place, the writers construct an original novelistic landscape that offers multiple readings: the sea as a changeable and unpredictable place; the sea as a place of individual or collective/national remembrance; the sea as a place of individual and collective tragedy.
