AB  - Talib al-Rifa‘i extensively explores, in Ẓill al-Šams, Kuwait as a migrants’ destination in the contemporary period. Applying several literary, migration, social, and economic theories, this essay demonstrates that, like Kanafani and Isma‘il, al-Rifa‘i paints negative pictures of Kuwait as a (target) place for migrants. Through a comparative analysis, we illustrate the three novels’ stylistic, structural, and thematic representation of the migration factors identified in Lee’s Theory of Migration.
