AB  - In Al-Ḫibā’, Mīrāl al-Ṭaḥāwī describes the childhood of a small desert Bedouin, Fāṭima, who ultimately fails to extricate herself from an almost exclusively female environment and to tear herself away from the fate that society had written for her and imposed. More humanist than feminist, the author denounces, through the tragic history of the ruined childhood of little Fāṭima, an austere and conservative society that leaves scars–and a lack of freedom and affection that is detrimental to personal fulfillment.
